Community Helpers

For many children, preschool is the first time they are seeing a world outside of their homes. Until this point in a child’s life the majority of children have spent their time with their families and some extended family. They are being introduced to new buildings, rooms, teachers and friends. This is an exciting time for preschool age children.  One of our greatest privileges is introducing them to community  helpers. They have seen them on paw patrol or mickey mouse, but now they get to make that connection with real life.

Here at WCP&K we offer many opportunities to introduce the world outside of their four walls.  In our classrooms, our preschoolers engage in readalouds with all kinds of books about community helpers. Students are often seen dressing up like doctors, mother’s, police officers and more in our dramatic play centers. They also play with toy figures and pretend they are farmers or firefighters.  It is fun to watch them bring their imaginations to life.

This school year we have already been visited by four community helpers. The students have met a police officer, firefighters, a dentist and a pastor. Each one brought their jobs to life and shared something unique with our students.

This spring we look forward to sharing more community helpers with our students. We are introducing Spotlight Fridays, where we invite people from our community to share their jobs and talents with our preschoolers. We can’t wait to watch their eyes light up, their imaginations go wild and hear the excitement of meeting new people in their communities.
